about

"Liftoffs and Landings" was written and recorded in 2019 by Gravey Train.

Based out of Philadelphia, Gravey Train creates sweet n' sad, moon-themed country folk music. Whether singing the graces of Bev's Diner on the Moon or pining for that Pale Blue Dot, Gravey Train's songs will have you feeling great about your place in this universe.

Gravey Train features vocals by Joe Carlough (who runs This & That Tapes and the zine press Displaced Snail Publications) and vocals and guitar by Chris Baldys (who records as little stray).

lyrics

Liftoff, we have liftoff
At thirty two minutes passed the hour
I’m looking up towards the sky in this dome of glass
I hope I get there soon
I’ve got my eye on the moon

I’m flying away from my family
From my home, my town, and my comforts
I’m flying away from all of my worries,
I hope I stay safe today

Liftoff, we have liftoff
At half past the sweat on my brow
They said, we don’t know what it’s like to be up there
In a ship of chrome
We want you comin’ back home

Orbiting the moon so slowly
I’m looking back at the Earth so gently
Sitting in the lander, I miss my wife and folks
And this time it’s not a hoax

Landing, we have landing
The eagle’s set its talons down in the dust
I said, I don’t know what it’s gonna be like out there
All alone
Hopping on the moon, singing this song

In my spacesuit I feel heavy
I have a gravity all my own
Here too long, I wasn’t ready
I was ready to leave, but I wasn’t ready to roam

Liftoff, we have liftoff
I’ve made my way back from the lunar surface
Landing, soon I’ll be landing
Through the Earth’s ozone
I’m happiest to be back at home
